Audition and Competition Info

Auditions & Audition Prep

Audition Date: August 8 & 9

Audition preparation classes will occur during the first week of classes August 3rd-August 8th. This is when your dancer will learn their audition combos, work on technique, and get tools to help them succeed during auditions and throughout the season.

If your dancer misses the prep class, your dancer may learn the dance from the video prior to the audition. (Please note videos will be sent the same night as the class. This way all dancers will have the same amount of time to learn.) Auditions will be held Saturday, August 8th and Sunday, August 9th (schedule on pg. 2). If you cannot make the audition, email info@unityinmotion.dance to schedule your evaluation between August 3-15.

The prep classes are grouped by age similar to those at competitions and conventions. Dancers will receive their leveling placement for technique classes and team offer letters after the audition. Every dancer must take the technique classes that match the styles they are choosing to compete in, as well as the required classes for that genre.

Audition Fee

There will be a one-time flat-rate fee of $50 for each dancer auditioning which can be paid via check (made payable to: Unity In Motion Dance), cash, or Zelle before or on the day of your dancers’ audition.

Team Expectations

Dancers are expected to attend their weekly technique classes in addition to their scheduled rehearsals. Excessive absences (or chronic tardiness) may result in probation from competing with the team. If you miss a technique class, you will need to make up that class in a similar genre/level or the recreational class of that.

When you are on a competition team, you are expected to bring a higher level of commitment to your training. Each week after learning choreography, dancers should practice on their own to ensure that they retain the choreography. Rehearsals are for cleaning, strengthening the dance and fixing details, not for re-learning choreography.

Team Commitment

Dancers will be required to attend 4 events throughout the season. All events will be local within the Bay Area. Each event will be 2-3 days long (Friday-Sunday). However we ask that you keep the full weekend open just in case, studios usually don't receive any schedules until 7-10 days before the event.
